Edit metadata

Views and edits a PDF's title, author and other document properties, and saves the changes back into the file.

To edit a PDF's metadata:

  1. Drop your PDF. Its properties are read the instant you drop it — there is nothing to run first.
  2. Change Title, Author, Subject or Keywords as needed. Custom (JSON) holds any other properties the file carries — edit the JSON directly to change one.
  3. To remove a property, empty its box (or delete its line from the Custom JSON). The page reminds you: "Leave a box unchanged to keep its current value. Empty a box to remove that property from the PDF. Custom (JSON) holds this file's other properties — delete one from the JSON to remove it."
  4. Select Save changes.

You can remove at most 64 properties in one save — if you try to remove more, the page says: "One save can remove at most 64 properties at a time, and this one would remove <n>. Put some of them back, then remove the rest in a second save."

What you'll see when it's done: "Saved. This copy of the PDF has the properties exactly as you left them." (plus "It has also been saved to your library." if you used that option), with a download button for the result.

If something goes wrong
  • While the file's properties are still being read: "Reading this file's properties…"
  • If they can't be read here at all (a password-protected or damaged file): "This file's properties can't be read here, so there is nothing to save — the note above says why."
  • If you haven't typed anything to change: "Nothing to save yet — type a property above."
  • A problem in the Custom JSON box refuses the whole save: "<problem>. One fault refuses every custom property, so nothing at all is saved until it is fixed."
