Remove a password

Removes a PDF's password so it opens without one.

To remove a password:

  1. Drop your protected PDF.
  2. Type its Current password — "The password that opens this PDF".
  3. Select Remove password.

The preview reads the file as you go: "This PDF is password-protected", then "Checking the password…" once you've typed one, and either "Password correct — the unlocked file will have <n> pages" or "That password doesn't open this file". If the file has no password at all, it says "This PDF has no password — nothing to remove". A file that opens without a password but still carries restrictions shows "This PDF opens without a password but has restrictions — removing them needs the permissions password". A file that won't open at all shows "This file couldn't be opened — it may be damaged rather than locked."

What you'll see when it's done: a Done card with the unlocked PDF, ready to download, save to your library, open in the editor, or start over.

If something goes wrong

The same preview line tells you why before you even press the button; a failed run also shows Try again.
